How to Beat “Ten Piedad” in Blasphemous

Ten Piedad in Blasphemous

Ten Piedad is another of the big bosses you’ll have to face in Blasphemous. I already talked about Our Lady of the Charred Visage before. They don’t necessarily have to be done in this order, but it is the order the game suggests.

This boss is a sort of demon tree, and as strange as it sounds, I honestly found him quite a bit easier than the previous major boss. I’m almost wondering whether it’d be better to come for this one first, although it’s also true that the Penitent One is more upgraded now, and that must make a big difference. Future Silver here: that’s right, it’s better to make this your first boss.

So, whether you want to know how to find this boss or he’s giving you trouble, here’s the guide.

Ten Piedad Location

Ten Piedad can be found in the Church area (Mercy Dreams), an area I already recommended in my Blasphemous Tips post, since that’s where you can easily find the big statue that lets you cleanse your guilt. It’s the easiest way to get access to that feature in the game.

To reach the boss you’ll need to keep heading down; whenever you can’t, there will always be other paths that eventually take you lower. He’s at the very bottom. You’ll eventually run into the girl who helps us with some bosses, and from her you just need to go down a bit and head left to come face to face with the boss. To the right there’s a teleport portal to get back to other areas like Albero.

Attack Guide

As I mentioned, he’s not a very hard boss, or at least he didn’t give me much trouble. I say that because sometimes, for whatever reason, one person finds a boss really hard while another finds it the easiest one, and I mean two people who are more or less equally skilled.

These are his attacks:

  • Thorn Kick: Ten Piedad stomps the ground (you’d better not get hit by it) and summons pillars of thorns where you’re standing: one appears, and shortly after, another one. You can dodge it easily just by moving or with the Dash. The key is to Dash under his legs, which is also ideal to keep him from cornering you at the edge of the screen and wrecking you.
  • Low Strike: He does this mostly when you’re close to him: you’ll see him crouch and perform a low physical attack. The best approach is to keep hitting him and, when you see him crouch, Dash backward and then keep hitting him. He’ll often repeat the same attack “x” times in a row, so you do the same: Dash when he strikes, then hit. That said, if you’re good at parrying, I’ll tell you right now that’s the best way to deal with this attack.
  • Thorn Field: When you see the boss start charging something up, it’s this attack. Get away, because after a while (it takes a bit) he’ll slam the ground with both fists and summon several thorns that erupt from his position outward, so you need to get pretty far away. While he’s charging or performing the attack, you can hit him with some kind of ranged attack. By the way, here are all the Mea Culpa skills.
  • Thorn Toss: Every now and then he’ll scatter some thorns on the ground like mines that will hurt you, so be careful not to step on them. They disappear eventually, but you can also destroy them with Mea Culpa so they don’t get in the way. Watch out, because when he throws the seeds, they’ll hurt you if they touch you.

Strategy and Tips

Here’s the strategy:

Stay as close to the boss as you can for as long as you can and attack him as much as possible. Depending on the attack, you’ll have to do one thing or another.

  • Thorn Kick: As soon as he lifts his leg, Dash through Ten Piedad and keep moving so the thorns don’t hit you. Then go back on the attack, or use a ranged attack and then go back on the attack.
  • Low Strike: What I already mentioned: Dash when he’s about to strike (a Parry pays off more) and keep hitting. As long as he doesn’t stand back up, he might keep doing the attack.
  • Thorn Field: Get away quickly and hit him with ranged attacks; the magic you have at the start of the game is one example, as is “Fervorous Blood”.

And all of this while watching out for any thorns lying around, which you can easily jump over or clear out if things are getting dangerous. Remember that if you want to close in on the boss quickly, you can use Mea Culpa’s “Sacred Thrust, Sacred Lunge… that part of the tree” skill.

With a bit of patience he’ll go down. You’ll see that with this strategy he falls pretty quickly.

Perpetva is one of those Blasphemous bosses that drop on you without warning, with that sword and that annoying lightning. Here’s where to find her, her attacks and the tips that worked best for me so I didn’t end up fried.
