How to Beat Expósito, Scion of Abjuration in Blasphemous

Expósito, Scion of Abjuration in Blasphemous

Expósito, Scion of Abjuration could currently rank among the toughest bosses in Blasphemous, although once again I still think the worst one so far, without any doubt, is Esdras of the Anointed Legion.

The name belongs to the baby, even though the fight is really against a sort of strange centipede with a woman’s head or something like that… Expósito is just there to annoy you, and if he grabs you, you’re going to see one of the goriest moments in the game, at least from what I’ve seen so far.

Anyway, let’s get to the guide!

Expósito, Scion of Abjuration Location

You can find Expósito, Scion of Abjuration in a place called “The Sleeping Canvases“, which is right below the “Library of the Negated Words”; you’ll need to head to the southwest part. Both areas are a real piece of work, and so far this is the stretch of Blasphemous that has driven me up the wall the most, for the following reasons:

  • The Book Throwers: You have no idea how much I’ve come to hate these enemies.
  • The Ghosts: They’re insanely annoying, and sometimes they team up with the book throwers to make your life impossible.
  • The Head Summoners: Also really annoying, constantly summoning flying heads… and on top of that there’s an upgraded version with sort of electric heads that explode. There’s an area crawling with them and it’s horrible.
  • The Axes and the Spikes: The number of times I’ve died in these areas… and on top of that, sometimes your Guilt Fragment ends up on the spikes and you’ll have to backtrack (which means spending even more time in such a horrible area) to cleanse your guilt at those statues, and of course there aren’t any in this area. Those statues know what’s good for them and wouldn’t want to be here.

So make sure you go through this area from top to bottom and discover everything in it before going after Expósito, because trust me, you won’t ever want to see it again. What a horrible area!

Anyway, back to the point; I needed to get that off my chest. Getting to the library is easy: it’s below “Mother of Mothers”. You can’t miss it, and you’ll eventually find it if you explore the whole area.

Attack Guide

He’s not an especially hard boss, but he’s not easy either; I’d put him somewhere in between. The most horrifying part is, without a doubt, Expósito, since his ways of “playing with us” are a bit harmful to the Penitent One’s health.

You need to be extremely careful with the baby, because if he catches you you’re going to have a bad time, no matter how much health you have or how many Bile Flasks you have left: it’s an instakill. Every now and then you’ll see a circle appear on the ground. Your absolute priority is to never be inside that circle; avoid it at all costs. I know it sounds easy, but it already happened to me once: I wasn’t paying attention because I was busy hitting the actual boss, and he grabbed me… and I’d almost finished the boss off, too.

And now let’s get to the actual boss, but again, keep a close eye on that circle:

These are the attacks of the centipede lady, or whatever that thing is:

  • Toxic Circle: The attack that starts it all. The boss forms a circle with its body and drops some toxic drops that you must avoid at all costs. If it catches you outside the circle, you can try to hit it (go wild) on its weak spot, which we’ll talk about further down.
  • Weird Wiggle: Every once in a while the centipede stays in a fixed spot but starts moving a bit weirdly. If it hits you, it’ll hurt you, so try to hit it while keeping its movement in mind. It’s probably one of its most annoying moves, since it’ll sometimes be hard to damage it while it’s doing this. Sometimes it’ll also throw a toxic drop at you along the way.
  • Fireball Toss: In my case, it didn’t use this attack very often. It just throws fireballs. Dodge them, although they bounce and are pretty fast.
  • Root Toss: The boss spits out sort of root discs from its mouth that deal damage. They’re also easy to dodge.
  • Tail Strike: An attack that’s hard to see coming, and if you’re unlucky enough that it comes right at your feet, you’ll probably have no choice but to eat it. It attacks you with its tail from the bottom of the screen, with a strike that reaches almost to the top of the screen.

As for phases, it doesn’t seem to have any; in my opinion it’s always the same.

Strategy and Tips

First, what I already mentioned: watch out for the baby and his hellish circle. As for the centipede… what worked really well for me was taking a very aggressive approach so the fight ends quickly, since after all it’s very easy to take a lot of damage in this encounter.

The key to this boss is knowing its weak spots:

  • The Strange Body Part: If you look closely, it has a sort of different-colored part on its body. That’s where it takes the most damage, so it should be your main focus. You’ll really notice its health dropping if you hit it there, so try to do it at all costs.
  • The Head: It won’t take as much damage as the previous spot, but there will be plenty of times when you can’t properly hit its real weak spot, so better this than nothing.

The best moment is when the boss brings its head together with that body part. At that point you’ll deal huge damage if you hit both spots at once. In my case I managed to do this while using the “Zarabanda of the Safe Haven” Prayer (the shields) and took off half its health in no time.

Build

These are some items I recommend bringing for Expósito, Scion of Abjuration:

  • Rosary Beads:
    • Ember of the Holy Cremation: Or another one that boosts your physical defense, like “Dove Skull”, although that one is less powerful.
  • Prayers:
    • Zarabanda of the Safe Haven: A prayer that always comes in handy, although it didn’t work against Melquíades.

Quirce el Devuelto de las Llamas en Blasphemous
Quirce

Quirce looks intimidating with his fire attacks and that agility, but in practice he’s one of the most predictable bosses in Blasphemous. Here’s where to find him, all his attacks and the items that worked best for me against him.
