Location of Every Mea Culpa Shrine in Blasphemous

Mea Culpa Shrines in Blasphemous

Mea Culpa Shrines are, without a doubt, some of the most worthwhile things to find in Blasphemous, since they increase your damage and also unlock new Mea Culpa skills. There’s nothing better in this game than stumbling upon one of these Shrines.

That’s why I decided to put together this guide with the location of each one, with pictures and all, to make it as easy as possible. By the way, the very last one is quite a bit harder than the rest (a lot harder, actually), you’ll see!

Where Are the Mea Culpa Shrines in Blasphemous?

Here are all the locations:

Albero

This is the first one you’ll find, unless you’re rushing ahead without thoroughly exploring everything along the way. It’s in Albero, an area you’ll reach within just a few minutes of playing. To get to it (no picture needed), just go through the door in the bottom-left part of Albero and that’s it.

Convent of Our Lady of the Charred Visage

This Mea Culpa Shrine is also pretty easy to find, and you’ll probably stumble onto it almost by accident. You’ll find it right after defeating Our Lady of the Charred Visage: just keep going straight after finishing off the boss and you’ll eventually reach it.

Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow

This is the game’s first area, and as you can see, you’ll find a lot of useful things packed together here. The Sword symbol is where the Shrine is (the marker is somewhere else because I used this picture to show where the Confessor Statues are for unlocking the Good Ending in Blasphemous).

To get here, you’ll need to complete the quest to “create” a path for the old man you meet in “Jondo”.

Mother of Mothers

Another recycled picture, but hey, you’ve got to recycle for the environment! Well, maybe it doesn’t matter much in this case, but at least it saves me some work.

This one is in Mother of Mothers, and honestly it doesn’t have any special requirements.

Library of the Negated Words

You’ll also come across this Mea Culpa Shrine pretty much by accident during your adventure through Blasphemous. It’s in the Library of the Negated Words, and you’ll unlock it after defeating Expósito. Just keep going forward, take the elevator and go through the door on the left.

Archcathedral Rooftops

This one is a bit trickier. It’s in the “Archcathedral Rooftops”, and you’ll have to complete the different trials found on the right side of that big elevator with three carved faces.

In them you’ll run into Esdras of the Anointed Legion, which is pretty annoying, but it’s a somewhat watered-down version of that encounter. You’ll have to complete all the trials and unlock a few doors until you reach the Mea Culpa Shrine, which is behind the right-hand door on the upper floor (without going up to Crisanta‘s floor).

Chalice of Inverted Verses

This is where things get complicated, and if you’re the type who’s explored every area really thoroughly, this is probably the Shrine you’re missing, since it’s pretty convoluted.

The first thing you need to do is go to this area:

Chalice of Inverted Verses in Blasphemous

To get here, you’ll have to jump into the void from the top of the elevator. But before you throw yourself down recklessly, you’ll need to equip the “Linen of Golden Thread” Relic, and once you reach the middle section you’ll also need “Three Gnarled Tongues”.

In this room you’ll find the Chalice of Inverted Verses and some paintings showing a few of the enemies. What you need to do is take the Chalice and then defeat each of the enemies shown in the paintings without dying or using the teleport portals (a real drag, yes).

  • Lion (Lionheart): You’ll find it in the Wall of the Holy Prohibitions.
  • Stone Soldier (Sleepless Tomb): In The Sleeping Canvases.
  • Minotaur (Phalaris): In the Mountains of the Endless Dusk.

There are several possible routes here, and frankly they’re all horrible, but I’m going to recommend something that will probably come in really handy. It’s best to get the Stone Soldier’s blood first, since it’s in our beloved “Sleeping Canvases” and “Library of the Negated Words” areas. That said, don’t go through the axe section; you can avoid it if you leave through the upper part of the library.

The other two are much easier, and if you’ve unlocked the horse lift in the Convent of Our Lady of the Charred Visage, getting to the Lion safely will be very easy.

Once the vial is full, remember that you’ll need to go back to the area where you got the chalice, and you’ll open a door that leads to your well-deserved final Mea Culpa Shrine.

By the way, it looks like they took inspiration from Hollow Knight’s Delicate Flower, right? I hope this doesn’t become a habit in Indie Games, because what a nightmare.

And that’s it! Do you already have Mea Culpa at max level in Blasphemous? Did the Chalice of Inverted Verses quest give you a hard time? Leave a comment!
