How to Beat Lida the Terrible in Well Dweller

Lida the Terrible in Well Dweller

I think we were all pretty surprised when Lida the Terrible showed up in Well Dweller, since, well, it seemed like the whole idea of Lida being a witch was just nonsense made up by the people of GravenValley (they also thought Egbert was a witch, which made us let our guard down), but that’s how it goes.

Once again, it’s a boss that follows the trend of pretty disturbing bosses, so I can already imagine what the later ones have in store for us. Honestly, that’s something I’m really enjoying about this game.

Anyway, if you’re here it’s because you want to beat or find this boss, so let’s get to it.

Location: GravenValley

The boss is in GravenValley, but to unlock it you have to complete the objective where you need to save Egbert and Lida from the witch burning.

Location of the witch burning ticket seller

To do that, you first need to get a ticket for the witch burning, and you can get one right where the image above shows. If you still don’t know how to unlock this objective, it’s in the area to the right of the save tent in the image (you can only just see it, but it’s there).

Once you have the ticket, the map itself will mark the boss’s location. At the witch burning, when the trumpeter starts playing, head left and break the rope.

Phase 1 Attack Guide

These are the boss’s attacks at the start of the fight:

  • Blood Spit: She spits red gobs all over the place. Avoid getting hit by them while you try to land your own hits.
  • Ground Tremor: She slams the ground with one hand, sending 2 energy shockwaves along the floor in both directions. Shortly after, she slams with the other hand with the same effect. Jump over the waves.
  • Dagger Toss: She creates a sort of circle of floating daggers and, after a moment, starts throwing them at you one at a time. Watch out, because they track your character a bit. Keep moving the whole time and use the dash to avoid getting hit.

Phase 2

It starts once you’ve taken off roughly half her health. Suddenly a table appears in the middle of the arena with some onions on it and, well… a pretty uncomfortable situation for our character. Everything that isn’t the table turns into spikes, so the idea is to stay on the table, even if you don’t really feel like it given the situation.

In this phase her moveset changes noticeably:

  • Kitchen Knives: Several big kitchen knives come crashing down. They always fall in pairs (she does this 3 times in total, with a bit of a gap between each one). The idea is to stand in the gap between the two. If you can’t make it to the gap in time, you can dash right before they hit you, but be careful not to fall off.
  • Dagger Drop: First she throws a single dagger that you should dodge by just moving normally, then she throws a whole fan of them. Dodge those with the dash, timing it right before they hit you.
  • Blood Spit: Same attack as in phase 1, but now you have less room to dodge.

Strategy and Tips

It’s better to keep hitting her from the ground (you can hit her in the air, but it doesn’t work that well against this boss) while you dodge her attacks. Use the Flaming Vessel whenever you have it available; you’ll really notice the damage.

Trinkets I recommend:

  • Silver Ring: Slightly increases damage dealt.
  • Skull Keychain: Emits a barrage of burning embers when you get hit, so it’s passive damage every time you take damage.
  • Golden Needle: Creates a circle of spikes around you when you’re at 25% health or less. More passive damage without having to worry about anything. That said, healing always comes first, so don’t push your luck.

And that’s it! Were you surprised by the fight against Lida the Terrible in Well Dweller? Did it catch you off guard that she turned out to be a witch after all? Is she the scariest boss so far? Leave a comment!
